Bible Study: The Lord’s Supper
On April 12, Pastor Rod and Pastor Ben will begin a new Adult Bible Class, “Beyond the Beginnings: The Lord’s Supper.” These “Beyond the Beginnings” studies are designed to deepen our faith by returning to the core teachings of Christianity, especially those in Luther’s Small Catechism, and exploring how they shape our life together today.
This Spring we will focus on one of the centerpieces of our life together: the Lord’s Supper, where Jesus gives us His true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. We will look closely at what Scripture says about the presence of Christ’s body and blood in our eating and drinking, the spiritual benefits of receiving the Lord’s Supper, and what it means to be “in communion” with one another as we kneel at the rail together, side by side. Along the way, we will wrestle with big questions, such as why do different churches practice communion so differently? What does it mean to eat and drink worthily? How do we lovingly explain our communion practice at Bethlehem to friends and family who worship elsewhere? If you have ever wondered what is really happening at the altar or want to grow in appreciation of the gifts of Christ that he gives at His table, this is one class you won’t want to miss!
